On Saturday, January 30, at 1.00 pm chairman of Ventspils City Council, Aivars Lembergs, will receive a present from the popular Latvian band "Baltie lāči" – a song "Lai vēji pūš!" ("Let the Wind Blow"). The song was written in honour of the 720th anniversary of the city.
During the event at Ventspils Ferry Terminal, you will also hear other songs from the band's new album "Tā kā tā!" which was released at the end of 2009.
Musicians admit they have sweet memories about Ventspils. Three years in a row, their songs received the highest assessment from the audience of "Latvijas šlāgeraptauja" final concert in Reņķa Garden. The band closely cooperates with Ventspils businessman Italo Freimanis. Following his initiative, "Baltie lāči" from Latgale Region came a long way to the 1st Karlīnes Street Festival in Ventspils this summer.
Festive atmosphere, smell of smoked fish, narrow cobbled streets and tiny little houses of Ostgals, Liiv songs and stories by Ventspils seamen and fishermen inspired the band to write a new song "Lai vēji pūš!" the very evening. Latgale musicians want to thank the city for great inspiration giving a present to its 720th anniversary.
Entrance: free of charge.
